Client:
|
Coalition for Jobs & Health
Care (CJHC)
a broad coalition of many of the United States' largest corporations
and trade associations that joined together to promote meaningful
health care reform without employer mandates.
|
|
The Assignment:
|
The hottest political issue in the United States in 1994 was national
health care reform. The PBN Company was hired to conduct an aggressive,
nationwide public policy communications program to draw media and
policy maker attention to the fact that proposals for employer mandates
requiring employers to pay for the health care of all
employees are unworkable and would have a devastating impact
on American businesses, consumers and taxpayers.
|
|
PBN’s Strategy:
|
All of the debate in Congress and in the media had
previously been held "inside the beltway." To prove to
lawmakers that their voters cared about this issue, PBN took the
debate to their home districts. News conferences, letters-to-the
editor, editorial boards and advertising campaigns were held in
the districts of swing Congressional members.
|
|
Results:
|
The ultimate goal was met. The legislation was defeated, and employer
mandates have not been included in national health care legislation
since 1994.
