To eat and drink:
Balls Brothers run a chain of wine bars and restaurants across London,
concentrating particularly on the City financial district. Excellent selection
of wine and a good value menu which is ideal for a business lunch. Excellent,
old-fashioned English puddings! If you have a meeting in the City, why
not lunch at Balls Brothers at St. Mary at Hill, EC3? Phone +44 207 626
0321.
Right next to that branch of Balls Brothers is Bangers Too, an excellent
place for wine, beer and sandwiches. Particularly good if you want a pint
or two of best bitter, served in an old-fashioned pewter tankard! Phone
+44 207 283 4443.
If you want to visit a real old English pub with a marvelous view of
the River Thames, but also within an easy range of the City, try The
Mayflower which serves good beer and delicious lunches in a very
really historical setting. Address: 117, Rotherhithe street, London, SE16,
telephone: +44 207 237 4088.
To visit:
If you want a trip out of London, try visiting
Windsor. This town in Berkshire is just a short train ride from London
but has a wealth of things to see, particularly Windsor Castle, one of
the residences of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Parts of the castle
are open to visitors. You can also visit the quiet streets of the town,
the converted town station (now a very chic shopping arcade), look at
Eton College, the famous boys’ Public School, and stroll along the
banks of River Thames. Trevor likes rowing and his club is located a few
miles upstream!

To eat and drink:
For a traditional English afternoon high tea, try The Goring Hotel right near Victoria
station. In the winter or on a rainy day, the indoor dining areas are the peak of Edwardian
architectural splendor. In nice weather the garden area is a lovely place to enjoy your crumpets.

To visit:
For a different sort of museum experience, try the Churchill Museum & Cabinet War Rooms.
Part of the Imperial War Museum, you can see the underground rooms in which Prime Minister Winston
Churchill and his cabinet worked during the World War II air raids. If you’re up for a war-themed day,
wander aboard the HMS Belfast, a World War II era warship, docked along the Thames as a floating museum.

A Day Out:
Try Oxford for a nice day trip ouside of London. Trains run from Paddington Station, the Oxford Tube bus service runs from
Victoria Station. Explore the famous Oxford University colleges, which date back as far as the 12th century, check out the
Alice Shop dedicated to Lewis Carroll’s inspiration and have a pint in the Eagle & Child pub, where authors JRR Tolkien
and CS Lewis took breaks from writing and studying.

Italian/Mediterranean food, this stylish restaurant is located on the
Thames, moments from the infamous Tower Bridge. If you get a table by
the window, the only choice you will need to make is whether or not you
want to face East (looking on to Canary Wharf and the Docklands), or West
(with views of Tower Bridge and the City of London). Either way, you can’t
go wrong.

Baltic Arguably the best Eastern
European food that money can buy West of Warsaw. The atmosphere is fantastic,
and the range of 32 “Baltic vodkas” even better. Try not to
sample all of them in one visit.
